Behind the scenes at Atlantis Leisure

-

THERE has been lots going on at Atlantis again this month with new equipment, grants and loans for improvements and ongoing maintenance problems.

Disabled changing room upgrade

NEW flooring should be laid shortly, allowing the rest of the work to continue. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the changing rooms fundraising campaign so far.

Recycling

AS PART of the drive to be more environmentally friendly, Atlantis will be recycling plastic bottles from next month. Please deposit plastic bottles in the bins in the café and the centre will make sure they are recycled instead of going to landfill. Thanks to Felix Hughes who is working hard around the town encouraging businesses to be more proactive with their recycling.

New sports equipment

NEW play equipment has arrived for the mini movers’ pre-school sessions.

Green energy

ATLANTIS has finally been accepted for a £50,000 interest-free loan and a £10,000 grant from Resource Efficiency Scotland. This fund will be used to replace the lighting around the building with power-saving LEDs and replace an essential electrical control panel in the pool plant room. Unfortunately, the installation of the electrical control panel will require Atlantis to be closed for up to three days. Updates will be posted on when this happen and the centre will make sure it causes the least disruption.

Clients might have noticed that recently the pool changing rooms have not been as warm as usual. Technical problems with the air source heat pump have meant it has had to be had turned off. Atlantis is working to resolve this with the supplier.

Our staff

A FAMOUS face around Atlantis - AK - left the business this month after 18 years of working to improve people’s fitness in the gym and classes. Atlantis wishes him the best of luck in his new career.

Max Buchanan has joined the team this month, bringing his personal training business to Atlantis. He has been on the elite athlete programme for the past 12 months as a successful weightlifter. The leisurecentre is hosting a pool plant operator three-day course this month for staff.

Buy a brick fundraiser

CHECK out the names on bricks that were bought 25 years ago and then support the changing room refurbishment by buying a brick for £5.
