Fiona’s time at Fort museum comes to end
FOR 30 years, Fiona Marwick’s name has been synonymous with that of the West Highland Museum in Fort William.
But last week saw the museum mark the end of her extensive term as curator.
Fiona first started as secretary and curator in 1986 and served until 2007, leaving to bring up her family and then returning part-time in 2012.
Fiona also brought much experience to the museum and was its first qualified curator.
During her years overseeing the artefacts, she brought it to its present highly-regarded position.
The museum trust also welcomed Vanessa Martin, of
Spean Bridge, who takes over as the next curator and who will have Fiona as mentor for a period. Colleen Barker will remain as manager.
Vanessa has had much voluntary experience of museums elsewhere and has carried out several tasks for the West Highland Museum over the past seven years, particularly helping gain accreditation from Museums and Galleries Scotland.
Marking the event, chairman John Hutchison said past and present trustees were very grateful for Fiona’s professionalism and dedication to the museum and wished her well in her other interests.
‘We are also delighted to welcome Vanessa Martin who joins our strong team,’ he added.
