-

KILMALLIE Community Council met on Monday February 26.

Among the items discussed were: Police update: Ross McCartney introduced himself as the new police community liason officer, having moved from Paisley. Ross suggested Katie Duncan, community relations officer, attend a future meeting to introduce herself. She deals with and tries to resolve tensions in communities.

Banavie war memorial: Christine Hutchison reported she had received a complaint about illegibility of the names and she had written to Emma Tayler. Alf Leslie of Highland Council would approach a stone mason for an opinion on work needing carried out and the community council is awaiting a response.

Catriona Davison, curator at Glencoe Folk Museum, had contacted the community council about finding out more about two Cameron brothers from Strone killed in the war. It was agreed to include it in the newsletter.

Kilmallie Community Gardens: The community council thanked the individual who had rejuvenated the community gardens.

Update from the Fort William congestion group: Ben Thompson advised that Transport Scotland had suggested a short-term improvement at Nevis Bridge to improve the flow of traffic as this had been identified as a trouble spot.

AECOM has been given the job of suggesting what that improvement could be and there have been thoughts on a solution which needs action from British Telecom to progress.

AECOM is carrying out an appraisal from Annat to Torlundy and the southside of Fort William with results due in the middle of the year. It is expected long-term approaches and solutions will emerge in due course.
