Recycling maps to help reduce waste

-

RECYCLING in Lochaber is now easier thanks to new maps published by Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) which earmark all the area’s recycling points.

Produced by the green community and designed by Frank Conway, the map has been supported through funding from Zero Waste Scotland and the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.

The map shows locations where people can take everything from glass bottles and cardboard to light bulbs, batteries and clothes.

Marian Austin, volunteer director and chairwoman of LEG, said: ‘We hope the map will encourage people to recycle more. Increasing recycling helps reduce our impact on the environment and saves all of us money as waste is diverted from going to landfill which is an expensive option paid for by Lochaber residents via their council tax.’

An interactive map is available on LEG’s website lochaberenviro.org.uk, where a free PDF copy can also be downloaded.

Christine Rolin, LEG waste energy and waste officer, added: ‘Recycling is an easy way to do your bit to help fight climate change. The intention is to keep the map up-to-date, so if anyone notices any omissions or incorrect information, please let LEG know and we can make changes.’

LEG has printed leaflets which it can post out free.
