Former dancer still relishes Oban festival

-

ONE person eagerly anticipating the Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival is Christine Lacey, who chairs the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing.

The festival takes place throughout Oban from May 4 to 6.

Christine said: ‘I loved competing at the festival myself - it was always a happy event with a great atmosphere. The invitation to those fortunate enough to win and perform at your ceildh in the evening was always an honour to be part of, along with the musicians as well as the dancers.

‘Then, as a teacher, my dancers loved the choreography challenge. For some, it was the highlight of their year to be all together and staying in the youth hostel in Oban - where many a story could be told!

‘The progress that has been made for the dancers over the years is fabulous and this is down to the members of the committee who strive relentlessly to make it the success it is year after year.

‘They should all be very proud of what has been developed over the years. To start, maintain and develop the traditions and cultures of Scotland through dance and music is a wonderful experience for generations of youngsters, both of today and in the future.

‘Please pass on my thanks for the dedicated service of all involved and I wish you every success for the 2018 event and going forward.’
