Search on for inspiring young people

-

THIS year has been selected as the Year of Young People (YOYP) and organisations are on the hunt for those who have gone above and beyond.

Loganair and partners are searching for 30 young people from Orkney, Shetland and the Western isles who represent the ‘Spirit of Young People’.

The airline will then collect and transport them to Edinburgh, where they will attend a parliamentary hearing and the Young Scot Awards.

They are looking for those who have ‘gone the extra mile, excelled through sport, arts, culture, been ambassadors for their community, helped the environment, been a fundraising hero, promoted the importance of physical and mental health, challenged the negative stereotypes of young people or championed diversity’.

Loganair will also rename the Saab 340 aircraft as ‘The Spirit of Young People’ and will offer discounted flights for young people from Orkney and the Western Isles to attend the BIG Takeover event on Shetland.

Orkney MSP Liam McArthur, Shetland MSP Tavish Scott and Western Isles MSP Alasdair Allan said in a joint statement: ‘YOYP 2018 is an opportunity to promote our islands’ young people.

‘This great initiative will bring 30 fantastic young people together and courtesy of a Loganair flight, to Edinburgh in time for St Andrew’s Day.

‘We are very pleased to help and look forward to hosting everyone in the Scottish Parliament. We encourage members of the public to nominate young people from across the islands to get involved and apply to be part of what will be a great experience in celebrating all that is good about the next generation of talented, able and committed young people from Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.’

Nominations can be made online during April and May at www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/spirit ofyoungpeople/
