This year’s Easter Fèis Latharna is the biggest yet

-

This year’s ‘fantastically successful’ Easter Fèis Latharna was the biggest to date.

A total of 200 children and teenagers took part in the five-day Gaelic and music festival last week at Oban Primary campus.

Fèis Latharna chairwoman Audrey MacFadyen said the highlight of this year’s Easter Fèis included the introduction of Fèis Bheag ‘Wee Fèis’, which sold out in days.

She said: ‘We will have to look at how we can accommodate a larger capacity of five- to sevenyear-olds next year.

‘With 200 participants in total, our Easter Fèis in Oban is one of the largest in the country.

‘Another highlight was Fèis Latharna releasing a debut CD featuring members of Argyll Ceilidh Trail 2017. This EP is now available from Oban Music and our website, and was recorded locally at Nutshell Music.’

Treasurer Ewan MacDonald said: ‘We had to close the bookings because we could not take any more.

‘It was brilliant. We had lots of new tutors, and returning ones – there were over 30 in total.

‘We also had the Fèis Bheag and had 25 fiveto seven-year-olds. Fèis Bheag is an introduction to Gaelic and music.

‘We will definitely be continuing that next year. It was a fantastic success, and there’s definitely a demand for it in the future.

‘Thanks to our funders, our voluntary committee members and parents who came along and helped – that made it all possible.

‘I think it’s great to see the continuing, growing demand each year and the support for it as well.

‘The support from Argyll Community Housing Association allowed lower income families to take part.’

Every Saturday, a group Fèis event takes place during school term time at Glencruitten Church Centre from 10am until 1pm.
