❒ The Aonach Mor Uphill Race will take place on Saturday April

14. The route is 5km and uses the red downhill mountain bike track at Nevis Range for an uphill running race. Registrati­on opens at 2pm and the race starts at 3pm. Entries on the day.

❒ Aye2Aye in Fort William will be holding another ‘A Better Scotland’ conference on Saturday April 14. Speakers include Robin McAlpine, director of Common Weal, and Katherine Trebeck, director of research at Wellbeing Economies Alliance. The conference is from 10am to 4pm at the Kilmallie Community Centre (Kilmallie Hall) in Corpach. A ceilidh will follow the day’s conference from 7pm.

❒ On the following day, Sunday April 15, Aye2Aye will also be hosting a workshop on grassroots activism at Kimallie Community Centre. The workshop runs from noon until 4pm.

❒ Representa­tives of Lochaber Sensory Care for sight and hearing support will be making an outreach visit to Ballachuli­sh on Monday April 16. Staff and volunteers from the Caol-based organisati­on will be at Abbeyfield Care Home from 10.30am until 12.30pm. The team will offer free help and advice to anyone with a sight loss or hearing loss – residents and members of the public. They will also provide NHS hearing aid batteries and re-tubing. No appointmen­t is necessary.

❒ There will be a further session to help with the restoratio­n of the Kilmallie Community Gardens on Saturday April 21, from 10am till 1pm. All welcome. Contact Sarah Kennedy on 07768 805040 for informatio­n.

❒ Kilmallie Community Centre will host a grand ceilidh on Saturday April 21 at 7.30pm. The evening will be hosted by John Joe MacNeil, winner of the traditiona­l gold medal at Lochaber Mòd 2017. Music will be supplied by Bruce Lindsay and supporting artists. Tickets at the door. Money will be divided between Kilmallie Community Centre and Macmillan Nurses.

❒ Nevis Canoe Club has organised sea kayak sessions for adult beginners and improvers. The first session is in the leisure centre pool on Friday April 27 in the water 8pm to 9pm. The sessions are supported by an instructor and equipment is provided. The fee is £25 towards costs plus a membership of £15. For further details contact Nevis Canoe Club neviscc@hotmail.co.uk.
