Dingwall and Highland Marts on Thursday April 5 sold 5,066 sheep of all classes including the annual spring sale of ewe lambs.

Ewe lambs (3,426) averaged £69.82 and sold to £138 gross for a pen of Beltex crosses from Simpson’s Croft, Scotsburn. Wedder lambs (1,293) averaged £58.88 and sold to £103 gross for a pair of Zwartbles from Druid Temple Farm, Inverness. Ewes (267) averaged £47.81 and sold to £148 gross for a pair of Texel crosses from Burnside Croft, Jamestown. Breeding (12) sold to £110 gross for a pen of in lamb ewes from the dispersal of 12 Airdens, Bonar Bridge.

Rams and feeding sheep (68) sold to £100 gross for a Zwartble ram from Druid Temple Farm. Caledonian Marts Ltd on Thursday April 5 sold 178 cattle, comprising 70 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, and 108 cast cows and bulls. A mixed show of cattle met the dearest trade for a number of years, and many more could have been sold to our large ringside of buyers.

United Auctions on Wednesday April 4 sold 1378 store cattle and young bulls at their April show and sale of store cattle sponsored by Rural Finance also 79 cast cows and 2180 store and breeding sheep. Bullocks (718) averaged 238.01p to 305.10p per kg for a 272kg LimX from Balgowan and £1430 for a 686kg CHX from Netherton.

Heifers (543) averaged 231.60p to 275.90p per kg for a 290kg CHX from Hawthorn and £1350 for a 588kg LimX from Lochend. Young bulls (43) averaged 239.96p to 285.10p per kg for a LimX from Clatto and £1115 for a LimX from Clatto.

Beef cows (67) averaged 157.17p to 192.20p per kg for a SimX from Blackburn and £1530 for a SimX from Blackburn.
