Snow season at Nevis Range isn’t over yet

-

MORE than 30,000 skiers have enjoyed the Nevis Range slopes this year and the season is still far from over.

Thanks to Mother Nature, the snow means enthusiasts are having fun for even longer.

The Nevis Range resort usually closes around mid-April but the planned last day for this year is May 7.

Nevis Range commercial manager Chris O’Brien said: ‘It’s been a fantastic season so far with more than 30,000 skiers on the slopes. It’s great to have had so many people up on the hill and more people coming from the UK for some time now and the season just seems to be carrying on.’

Ski-Scotland said it has turned into ‘something of an epic season’ at the five resorts. Chairman of Ski-Scotland Andy Meldrum said: ‘Right from the start of this season we have had brilliant snow and superb support from our customers. We have had some of the best bluebird days I’ve ever experienced in Scotland with blue skies, sunshine and fresh powder.

‘With more snow forecast, the season is likely to continue into May with some, if not all, resorts open daily until customer numbers dwindle. But the snow is likely to remain for much longer than skiers and snowboarders turn out.’

Mr Meldrum added: ‘Once spring does finally arrive with warm sun and daffodils blooming, people seem to believe there’s no snow left for skiing or snowboarding.

‘However, this really is the best time of year to come for a slide in the mountains with a much better chance of good overhead weather. It’s also a really good time to learn, when the weather is kinder and slopes quieter. Just don’t forget your sunblock.’

Skiers and snowboarders are advised always to check conditions and also opening times before heading for the slopes.
