Kinlochleven Community Council minutes

-

KINLOCHLEVEN Community Council (KCC) met for its monthly meeting on Wednesday April 4. The following issues were discussed: ❚ Marie Law, Lochaber district manager for the NHS Highland, addressed the meeting about Kinlochleven becoming a dementia-friendly village. The village of Helmsdale offers this holistic approach to care in its community. The Leven Centre already offers ‘you time’, postal staff check on residents and neighbours helping.

With the backing of a multi disciplinary team, KCC hopes it can make getting older a little less daunting.

❚ Mini-bus: KCC thanked Julie MacDonald and Stuart Grant for the work they have put in to sort out this debacle. Investigations are still on-going.

❚ Trees on Wades Road: Residents who have lived in near darkness for decades will now see the light. No-one supports the wanton destruction of trees, but these fir trees had became too tall and too dangerous. There is still an issue with the broad leaf trees that line the road.

❚ Community Christmas tree: The plan is to have a sole respresentative to locate and purchase a tree of a certain height. New eco- lights will be bought from proceeds of car boot sales.

❚ A new business venture called Kinlochleven Together Local involves independent accommodation providers getting together to offer a more cohesive approach to hospitality in the village.

❚ There was a joint meeting of KCC and Kinlochleven Community Trust on March 14. The minutes will be published once ratified.
