Kilmallie Singers joined by professionals for one of greatest classics – Mozart’s Requiem

-

At their spring concert on Saturday April 28, Kilmallie Singers will be joined by some professional musicians to perform Mozart’s Requiem, one of the great classics of the choral music repertoire.

The singers will be joined by four talented soloists, along with renowned organist Robin Verseeg, of Cairngorms Music.

This is the first time in several years that the choir has performed such a major work. A longstanding partnership with the Corran Singers of Lochgilphead came to an end some years ago and staging such a large work since then has not been feasible.

Now, under the leadership of conductor Catherine Cameron, and with increased membership, the choir is delighted to be offering its audience the opportunity to enjoy this iconic work. As well as the Requiem, the programme in the second part of the concert will include works by Leonard Bernstein, born 100 years ago this year, and Andrew Lloyd Webber, who celebrated his 70th birthday in March.

Singing soprano is Charlotte Sutton, who has sung with Kilmallie Singers on many occasions. Charlotte hails from New Zealand, where she trained at Victoria University before moving to Scotland. Marion Ramsay, originally from Islay, will sing the alto role. She has also sung with the choir before, while she was a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Marion is an acclaimed professional singer, much in demand across the UK.

Matthew McKinney and Will Frost will sing tenor and bass respectively. They are currently third year undergraduate students at the Royal Conservatoire and already have extensive solo experience. They are also both winners of the prestigious Governors’ Recital Prize for Chamber Music.

Kilmallie Singers are thrilled to be welcoming this wealth of talent to Fort William and to have the opportunity to perform with such fine musicians. The concert will begin at 7.30pm in the Duncansburgh church and tickets are available from members and at the door.
