The Oban Times

The shortlist

Now it is up to the general public to vote for who they think should play at Oban Live this June. Here is your shortlist:

-

RHUVAAL

Hailing from Argyll, Rhuvaal are a young folk-based traditional band consisting of five members. Playing modern traditional music with a variety of instruments and songs, they have built up a solid following in Kintyre, Oban and Lorn.

As well as playing in a group, the band work diligently as solo musicians to be the best they can be while finding their own sound. They play local west coast tunes, music and folk songs from all over Scotland and other Celtic countries, as well as a lot of original compositions and songs.

STEPHEN SKINN

Solo singer/songwriter Stephen has, for the best part of a decade, penned many big-chorused songs. Stephen has spent the vast majority of his life in Oban, releasing his debut album, Living Off Dreams, in September last year.

EMMA LEITCH

Towards the end of 2017, solo singer/songwriter Emma achieved her long-held dream of recording her own EP Aurora in Oban, receiving airplay on BBC Radio nan Gaidheal and local radio. Emma has also supported Gary Innes in concert.

NEON SHEBA

‘Bringing people music that transcends genre and subtly outweighs the expectations of their listeners’, Neon Sheba have become accustomed to playing Oban since their start in 2016. They recently recorded their EP in St Mary’s Space in Fasnacloich, Appin, which will be released in the coming months.

They are inspired by the things they love to make understated alt-rock. Music and art is a massive part of their existence.

KATHLEEN ROBERTSON

Nineteen-year-old solo singer/songwriter Kathleen is a live performing musician and a passionate vocalist with a unique sound. Her performance and vocal skills developed while studying an HNC Music Performance course at West Highland College.
