BJJ

On Saturday April 14, Oban BJJ hosted a workshop with current European IBJFF champion John Nicolson, head of the Dunit Sports Hub.

John is a multiple time champion at BJJ and MMA, as well as a qualified wrestling instructor, so his presence at the academy is of high value to all students wanting to improve their game.

The first half of seminar was nogi, covering back attacks and finishing chokes. This was filled with small details that make all the difference in a sport where closing or opening an extra few millimetres of space can be the difference between a choke or an escape.

The second half focused on taking opponents to the ground, confirming your position on top then finishing. Again there was attention to details, making things that much stronger and sharper. Everyone really enjoyed the day and John was impressed with the attitude from the students who showed a thirst to learn and improve.

Coach Coogie Potter said: ‘We are delighted to say John will now be a regular in Oban helping with seminars. Between Marcos and John coming bi monthly, the team should continue to improve and grow. If anyone wants to learn BJJ don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Classes are every week day at 7.30pm. For more info contact Coogie Potter on coogiepots@gmail.com
