Youngsters complete food hygiene course
AS PART of Kinlochleven High School’s Employability Month, S2 pupils have completed food hygiene certificates in partnership with West Highland College.
The Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland is a Level 2 qualification in food hygiene which is nationally recognised in all sectors of the food industry.
The certificate is awarded to participants who have successfully completed the Elementary Food Hygiene Course and subsequent assessment.
The course takes a minimum of six hours and is designed to provide practical information and advice which will help employers and employees ensure food handling is carried out safely.
‘I am delighted to say everyone passed. We also had an outstanding performance from Hugh Purvis, who passed with full marks. That is some achievement as this qualification is an adult vocational course,’ said head teacher Rebecca Machin.
‘Our Employability Month is a part of our Developing the Young Workforce programme. By working with West Highland College, we are enabling young people to access more vocational options, better preparing pupils for the world of work.
‘We have a lot on this month with visits to local employers to look at the range of jobs they offer, working with local employers to identify and work on employability skills, and lots of pupils taking up work placements during exam leave. It is an exciting time.’
