CalMac just the ticket for young people
Ferry operator CalMac is supporting the Year of Young People (YoYP) 2018 with two new ticket initiatives.
Driven by the new CalMac Community and Stakeholder Engagement directorate, a survey was carried out to establish schemes to support YoYP 2018, in addition to those already in place.
Feedback from the CalMac Community Board showed ticketing support as a key theme and the decision was taken to contribute to the work of the YoYP Ambassadors by offering incentives to get out and explore Scotland.
Around 500 YoYP 2018 ambassadors have been recruited to make sure young people and organisations in local communities all over the country know about YoYP 2018 activities and events.
Ambassadors residing within the islands CalMac serves are being supported with free vouchers to YoYP events and all other YoYP Ambassadors, including those on the mainland, will be supplied with a 50 per cent off travel voucher.
YoYP 2018 is a celebration of the nation’s young people and a platform to give them a stronger voice on issues that affect their lives and showcase their talents and achievements.
‘We’re fully behind the Year of Young People and are keen to use our network to spread the word about what’s happening as much as possible,’ said CalMac’s director of Community and Stakeholder Engagement, Brian Fulton.
‘As a key connector of island communities, we are ideally placed to help ensure our young people, no matter where they are, can get involved.
‘It is a privilege to support the YoYP 2018 Ambassadors and all the hard work they are doing alongside thousands of other young Scots. We hope this small gesture will make it easier for them to get to Year of Young People events.
‘Thanks also to Young Scot for all the support it has given us in getting this initiative up and running.’
Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot, said: ‘It’s brilliant CalMac is embracing the spirit of the Year of Young People 2018 by offering this fantastic discount.
‘We want to reach all young people all over Scotland so having a discount like this helps young people get involved in the celebrations.’
