Invergarry pupils lobby police over village speed limit

As part of Invergarry Primary School’s community theme week, P1-3 held a Go Slow Keep It Low campaign outside the school to help Glengarry Community Council in its efforts to reduce the speed on the village roads.

Pupils stood outside their school last week with placards urging drivers to slow down while passing through the village.

The children also wrote to the police to ask for officers to go to the school with a speed gun and BEAR Scotland to ask for a radar flashing speed sign in the village. Unfortunately, all their efforts were in vain as two days later a speeding car caused a head-on collision which closed the road right outside the school gate.

After discussing the needs of different groups in their community, P4-7 created an action plan based on the community council meeting minutes and created various projects to help. The pupils organised a community clearup day and with the help of parents tidied up the post office layby and surrounding footpaths.

They contacted local businesses and clubs to help update the Glengarry Life website and got in touch with the council about providing a dog mess bin and a ramp entrance to the park.

They also included the wildlife community, making some lovely habitats for the playground as well as some informational posters for tourists.
