Sea Cadets’ AGM and awards night
Lochaber Sea Cadets recently held their 68th annual annual general meeting and awards night.
This year’s theme was changing for the future. Big changes have and are still taking place with a new commanding officer (CO), a new committee and two new potential instructors gained from the evening.
Inspecting officer was District Officer Robbie Hay from Inverness and there was also a good number of guests from the Fort William and district branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.
‘We enjoy working with the legion, particularly around remembrance and poppy collection, and look forward to supporting them at events in the future,’ said a spokesperson for the cadet detachment.
‘A special thank you to the Lord Lieutenant Donald Cameron of Locheil for his attendance and presenting trophies to our best junior cadet Daniel Parfitt and best senior cadet Finlay Dempster.’
The new CO enrolled his first two new entries – Kirsty Allott and Kieran McDougal – and expects a lot more in the near future with a number of juniors reaching the age of 12. The district officer also presented Jay Calder with the community shield for attending the most community-based activities and Deeann Strachan accepted the divisional trophy on behalf of Dragon Division for the overall divisional scores throughout the year.
This year will also see the detachment’s first foreign exchange cadet with Caitlin Gilchrist going to Hong Kong later in the year.
If anyone feels they would like to help out by either becoming an instructor, unit assistant, committee member or occasional helper, please go along and see what the Sea Cadets can offer.
