Saturday June 9 Bynack More, Cairn Gorm

A fine expedition in the Cairngorm Mountains. The return route goes around the head of Strath Nethy and over the shoulder of Cairn Gorm.

Start from Coire na Ciste CP, NH997074. Head NE, past a small plantation, directly to the col just south of a small summit, 737m. Descend E to Strath Nethy, cross the River Nethy and climb SE up the ridge to the summit of Bynack Beg, 964m. Continue southeast to Bynack More, 1,090m. Turn south to visit the Barns of Bynack. Head SW across a watershed to the summit of A’ Choinneach, 1,017m. Continue SW to pick up a path that leads down to The Saddle at the head of Strath Nethy, alt 807m. Take the path NW up to the col between Cairngorm and Cnap Coire na Spreidhe. Head N on a traverse to join the high path out of Coire na Ciste at about NJ005065. Follow it along the escarpment and down to the CP.

Thursday June 14

Tom Meadhoin to Inchree, Loch Leven

A through route over hills not often visited at the junction of two great sea lochs. Antiquity: Lag nam Morag Dun at NN029619.

Start on the B863 near Callert House at NN095603 where limited parking is available. Take the track N up through the trees and continue N on the path up to the bealach at NN100623. Turn W and follow the broad ridge to Tom Mheadhoin 621m. Cross the plateau SW to Creag Bhreac, 615m. Descend W over Leac Mhor and continue over undulating ground to the summit of Beinn an Aonaich Mhoir, 387m. Descend W and up to a small summit, Sidhean an Aonaich Mhoir, 297m.

Head NW to a bridge over the Abhainn Righ at NN034625. A short diversion W may be made to the Dun, alt 170m. Cross the bridge and follow the track up to a junction, turn left, then left again after 400m, and follow the path down past the waterfalls to the CP at Inchree, NN029634.

Sunday June 10 An Gearanach, Stob Coire a’ Chairn, Am Bodach, Sgurr a’ Mhaim, Glen Nevis, Ring of Steall

After passing through the Nevis Gorge and entering the Steall meadows, cross the wire bridge over the Water of Nevis, and negotiate the Allt Coire a’Mhail. Join the somewhat eroded path on to An Gearanach, carry on over An Garbhanach (some exposure) to Stob Choire a’Chairn.

Then go west, then SW to Am Bodach and west to Sgor an Iubhair. Go NNW now to Stob Coire a’Mhail over the Devil’s Ridge, followed by your last Munro, Sgurr a’Mhaim. Descend the NW ridge to cross the river by the wooden bridge at NN158685 and the road back to the start.
