Stirling – United Auctions on Thursday May 31 sold 1,990 prime sheep comprising of 309 new season lambs selling to an average of 235.80p and 1,231 old season lambs with an average of 183.30p and 450 ewes and rams.

Stirling – Caledonian Marts on Thursday May 31 sold 170 cattle comprising 97 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, 73 cast cows and bulls at their annual show and sale of Limousin cattle kindly sponsored by Scottish Limousin Breeders.

Prime bullocks averaged 217p. Prime heifers averaged 228p. Young bulls averaged 226p. Beef cows averaged 150p. Dairy cows averaged 118p.

The judging was in the hands of Ewart Fairlie of the Hedges, Letham, Angus and the following were his awards and prices realised.

Champion was a Limousin heifer from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, Broxburn which scaled 590kgs and made 275p per kilo to the judge.

Reserve champion again from Learielaw but this time a bullock scaling 690kgs made 240p per kilo to McGregor Meats. Prize list:

Also forward were 73 cast cows and bulls with beef cows averaging 150p per kilo selling to 210p per kilo from M McMillan, Balliemart­in, Islay and to £1,470 from JH and NT Turnbull, Meadowend, Clackmanna­n. Dairy cows averaged 118p per kilo selling to 142p from G Millar and Son, Gallamuir, Plean and to £1,110 for the same beast.

Many more cows could have been sold to sellers’ advantage. Cast bulls sold to £1,250 for a Simmental from Ferguson Brothers, Gillanders­land.

Stirling – United Auctions on Wednesday May 30 sold 671 store cattle also 83 cast cows and forward cattle. Bullocks (352) averaged 231.64p to 292.40p per kg for a 326kg BAX from Brisbane Glen and £1370 for a 604 BSX from Pathcondie.

B&W Bullocks (21) averaged 156.37p to 168.30p per kg for a 526kg HFX from Berryhill and £885 for a 526kg HFX from Berryhill.

Heifers (286) averaged 212.23p to 275.20p per kg for a 238kg CHX from Upper Ettrick and £1180 for a 532kg AAX from Newbank.

Young bulls (12) averaged 215.72p to 256.40p per kg for a LimX from Foulshiels and £1260 for a AAX from South Carse of Coldoch.

Beef cows (69) averaged 155.31p to 220.80p per kg for a SimX from Riccarton and £1,450 for a LimX from Upper Spittalton. Dairy cows (11) averaged 113.67p to 164.60p per kg for a BFX from Hapland and £945 for a BFX from Hapland. Forward cattle (3) averaged 177.20p to 207.40ppk for a LimX from Carstraan and £995 for a AAX from Flenders.
