History in the making

Welcome to your new-look

Oban Times!

Today is a very special day in the newspaper’s 157-year history. For this is the first week of our new compact paper. We hope you like it!

There is no doubt this change is the end of an era, both for The Oban Times team and for many of our loyal readers.

While many may be sad at the change because of the special memories attached to the broadsheet format, it is important that this move forward is not seen as a step back.

As you can see, we continue to be passionate about championing everything that is good in Argyll and Lochaber, fighting your corner when you need our support, and keeping you as informed as you have always been.

And with the new format reading your favourite newspaper will be even easier – whether that be at home, in the cafe or pub, on the bus or on the train. Over the last few years people’s reading habits have changed. While many will still want to buy their paper and take it home to read at their leisure, many more want to read it on the go.

People have busy lives and they want to catch up with all the local news and views at a time and place that suits them – reading it at work on their lunch break, or on their way home from work on the bus – and the new compact format makes that easier.

Technology has also dramatically changed people’s reading habits, with many of our readers catching up with local news online via the Oban Times website.

No matter how or when you want to read The Oban Times, we are committed to delivering local news that is important to you.

We would value your feedback on the changes, so please drop us an email to editor@ obantimes.co.uk and tell us what you think about the format.
