The Oban Times

Artist Q&A:

Alastair Currie & Tom Adams

-

Q: How did you start as a band?

We just came together; we had known each other and played with various people in the past. It is nice to perform with other people. Don’t forget we all enjoy ourselves as much as the audiences do; it’s good to sit in with other people and have them sit in with us. Tom is from Oban and Alastair from Islay. From our point of view it is far better playing as a duo than solo.

Q: What and who are your musical influences?

Tom plays keyboards and sings and Alastair is a box player; Tom loves big ballads, Scottish traditional and modern. It is good to include a strong ballad or two in the set that everyone knows. Alastair comes from a piping tradition so we have many a good pipe tune transposed for the accordion.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the Fringe Festival?

We will be playing at the Claredon Hotel, which is a favourite venue of ours; there is always a great atmosphere. We always enjoy playing there, a good crowd! We will be listening to other acts, meeting up with old friends, and it is always good at Oban Live. There is a great deal of talent on the west coast of Scotland, the ceilidhs, the fèis and the mod, the pipe bands. Music is an important part of life, young or old and it’s great to hear the younger kids today and their take on things.
