Lismore pupils say thanks for new play park
Lismore Primary School unveiled its new play park at its open day on Friday.
The parent council organised fundraising car washes, family ceilidhs and curry and quiz nights to replace the old play park, which had fallen into disrepair.
The children were consulted on what equipment they would like and decided on a basket swing, a bridge, a look-out tower with climbing ladders and poles, a sandpit and a pulley, a spiders web and a balance assault course.
Just after Christmas, the parent council had raised enough money to buy and build the play park on land rented from Argyll and Bute Council and Scotplay began construction in April.
The school was brightly decorated for the opening, with much of the year’s work on display including floor books, art work and information boards. There was also a short film about the new play park and a display giving information about its journey from start to finish.
The school children presented an opening ceremony, giving a brief explanation of how the play park had been funded and thanked the sponsors and the parent council.
The nursery children then used an enormous pair of scissors to cut the ribbon across the gate and the children declared the play park open.
Visitors inspected the play park and were served strawberry cream scones and tea whilst the children played and tucked into ice creams.
The parent council and school said they were ‘very grateful’ to all the sponsors who donated so generously: Aggregate Industries (Glensanda), Awards for All Scotland, Scottish Sea Farms, Argyll and Bute Health and Wellbeing Network, Tesco Bags for Life and Argyll Beats Cardiovascular Disease.
A school spokesperson added: ‘Thanks also go to Lismore Community Trust and the island community for supporting this fabulous resource which will be a wonderful place for the island’s children and visiting children to play for many years to come.’
