Schools’ out for summer...

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

The school holidays are upon us once again and I really hope the good weather continues to let everyone make the most of the time off.

It’s so much easier to amuse children if the weather is at least dry; you can get out and about and run off some of their boundless energy.

We’re lucky enough to have some great beaches on our doorstep at Ganavan and Tralee, Benderloch, and you can while away a whole day quite happily with a bucket and spade and a picnic.

There are lots of other things, too, to get you out and about for a day.

Kerrera is a fantastic place to get away from it all, and I still enjoy a trip on the big ferry to Mull and a visit to the play park in Craignure.

The wee trips to Seal Island are great and I’ve noticed on Facebook that the pups have started arriving, so cute if you get a chance to spot them.

Dunollie and Atlantis always have lots to keep everyone entertained, as does Oban Phoenix Cinema – for the days you need a wee seat after all the running around.

If you want to add some education into the fun then Oban Walking Tours are free for children under 16, but they must have an adult with them, or how about a visit to the Ocean Explorer Centre at Dunbeg to learn more about the oceans that surround us, and the Sealife Centre at Barcaldine to learn about the creatures in the ocean.

WHERE IS THIS?

There are lots of things to do around us and hopefully we will get the weather to enjoy them – after last year I think we’re due some sunshine.

Don’t forget to have a look at Oban Town Diary to keep up with everything that’s happening.

Last week’s photo was the top of the building at Eeusk, I think people found that quite hard so this week I’ve chosen something really easy but I think beautiful.
