Caledonian Marts Ltd, Monday June 25, had forward 107 store cattle. A smaller show forward resulted in trade being dearer for the cattle forward.
Bullocks averaged 220ppkg selling to 259p from Glenside Farms for a pen of Charolais X and to £1,140 for a Luing from A McKenzie & Partners, Ardgate, Gartocharn.
Heifers averaged 202ppkg selling to 215p for a beef Shorthorn from A Frame, Burnside, Strathaven and to £900 for a Luing from A McKenzie & Partners, Ardgate.
Bulls sold to £1,000 for a Friesian from R Clowes, Newhall, Solsgirth and to 180p for a Charolais X from the same home.

Ewes and lambs sold to £101 for a BF ewe with twins from J Napier, Backyetts, Thornhill. Ewes with singles sold to £96, again from J Napier, Backyetts. Caledonian Markets Thursday June 21: 159 cattle comprising 101 prime bullocks and heifers to include 13 young bulls, and 58 cast cows and bulls. A better show of cattle for both quality and numbers would be dearer on the week, and more could have been sold.
Prime bullocks averaged 223p; prime heifers averaged 232p; young bulls averaged 192p; beef cows averaged 153p; dairy cows averaged 114p.
Heifers sold to 255p (three times) for Limousins from W Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie and two from D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie purchased by D Campbell & Son Butcher, Callander, T Connor Butcher, Troon and Hugh A Black & Sons, Stirling.
Bullocks sold to 248p again three times all for Limousins from A A & J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty; A S Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore and T H Gray, Balquharrage, Lennoxtown to T Johnston Butchers, Falkirk; J Hastie Butcher, Markinch and Robert Alexander Butchers, Port Glasgow.
Young Bulls sold to 218p for a Limousin from I W Brisbane, South Woodlane, Blairdrummond to J F Finlay Ltd, Wishaw. Heifers per kilo:

With a smaller show forward, trade met a high with OTM beef selling to 225ppkg for a Limousin from J McAlister, West Thomaston, Banknock and to £1,557 for the same beast, with the beef average being 153ppkg.
Dairy cows averaged 114p selling to 126ppkg from R & J Kerr, Balegreggan, Campbeltown and to £920 from D Graham, West Backs, Campbeltown.
