Fort FC holds junior awards event
Fort William Football Club held its junior awards events on Friday night at the local golf club.
This year was the first year for the primary 3 and primary 4 teams to attend the Fort William Youths’ Awards night.
The teams joined forces with Fort Youths this season and there was great excitement about being involved with the event which saw a fantastic turnout from players and parents.
Coaches had the very hard decision to make to chose the most improved player and player of the year.
To acknowledge their commitment and improvement each player was awarded a medal.
‘We have had a fantastic season with lots of hard work put in on training nights and great success at all the tournaments we have travelled to,’ said a spokesperson for the events.
‘We enjoyed our first indoor tournament at the Nevis Centre this season which was a great success.
‘Players, coaches and parents are looking forward to the next season and watching our young players develop.’
That part of the evening was followed by the older age groups and players, coaches and parents gathering to celebrate the individual awards of all the chosen winners of the season.
Coaches spoke about each team and all were delighted with the progress the local youth players had made this season.
Youth chairman Mark Rydings also thanked Danny Conlon for all the hard work he has put into youth football over many years.
Danny set up the youth system and has continued to support it in many roles for more than 20 years.
He is taking a break from it to concentrate on work commitments but the hope is he will return in some capacity in the near future.
Raffle tickets were sold on the night and after the awards presentation there was a fundraising horse race night.
Organisers were delighted to raise nearly £1,000 which will be used to help cover the costs of facilities and minibus hire and equipment.
