Anyone for a game of tennis?

The West Highland Tennis Tournament ‘hits’ off this Sunday with a full programme of tennis for a week, including local events at the beginning, and a championsh­ip competitio­n from Friday to Sunday.

The local events at Atlantis Leisure’s courts include an Argyll Day starting at 10am on Sunday July 1, when players from around the county can join for fun and competitiv­e matches, followed by a Mix and Match Monday, handicap singles on Tuesday, and then, again starting at 6pm, Wimbledon Wednesday, when players are invited to wear ‘Wimbledon whites’ – where at least one white item is required.

The local events aim to welcome players of all abilities and are open to locals, tennis club members and visitors to the town. Full details can be found at Atlantis Leisure.

The championsh­ip events, which run from Friday to Sunday July 6-8 at Atlantis Leisure in Oban and Taynuilt Sports Club, attract top ranked players from across the UK and also welcomes squads from Texas and Liverpool.

The West Highland Open Tournament is now one of six events in 2018 that will be a Tennis Scotland 1000 Series Event and will form part of the Tennis Scotland Open Tour. Ranking points players receive from the men’s and women’s singles will count towards the TS Open Tour Leader Board with the top players qualifying for the Tennis Scotland Open Tour Masters Event in December.
