Ardnamurchan High School hosts Celebration of Success
Ardnamurchan High School held its annual Celebration of Success last week and, despite some prizewinners being away on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition, the evening was well-attended.
Head teacher Christopher MillarCraig spoke of the remarkable successes of the school’s young people during the session.
These included winning the Highland and National Maths Challenge; the school’s record of 100 per cent positive destinations for its young people; the ongoing success of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative and the many examples of pupil initiative and achievement.
He also made special mention of past pupils’ successes and career journeys which parents had emailed in as contributions to the evening.
Senior pupils Kay Christian and Ian Kammerath delivered a witty overview of the school year, including trips, events and successes. Excellent music was provided by Iona Willis, Maighsi Rough, Joseph Tait, Rachel Bolton, guitar group Hunter’s Legacy, Eilidh MacArthur and the senior music class.
In keeping with the school’s Gaelic ethos, the evening included a video compilation exemplifying the enterprise of young people through their Film G creations, much to the delight of the audience. Special award winners this year were: German Embassy (Edinburgh) award for the school’s best German student for the year: Ian Kammerath; Overall School Nomination Winners: (pupils with the most staff nominations under the four capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence): Bethan White and Ben Gregg; Rural Excellence Award: Colin MacDonald; ‘Sgeulachd’ Award for Enterprise: AJ Macleod; Rotary Club of Lochaber Prize for Endeavour: Innes Ferguson; Ewan Gillespie Memorial Trophy: Kate Bradley; Lochaber Housing Association Cup for Academic Achievement in 201617: Charlie Pleming.
A delighted Mr Miller-Craig said: ‘Once again, this has been an excellent year for pupil achievement, contribution and engagement.
‘Well done to the young people and a big thank you to everyone who encourages and support our pupils and helps make Ardnamurchan High School what it is.’
