M&S reveals opening date for new store

- By Martin Laing mlaing@obantimes.co.uk

Marks & Spencer has announced it will be opening its newest foodhall in Oban on Thursday August 30 at 10am.

Located in Oban Retail Park, the foodhall is the second to open in the West Highlands in the past year after the launch of M&S Fort William in November.

As Oban is a gateway to the Isles, islanders will be able to enjoy M&S’s food products after only a short ferry journey. Given the number of Gaelic speakers in the region, the store will be dual signed in both English and Gaelic.

In addition to thousands of food products, M&S Oban will also offer the full range of M&S clothing and home products via its collect in store service. Customers can opt for next day pick up if they order by 10pm the night before on M&S.com and the store will also offer returns.

The 48 staff working at M&S Oban have all been undergoing training in how to look after customers, drawing on M&S’s 134 years of serving the British public.

Staff will be on hand to help customers use Honeywells – digital devices that enable M&S staff to quickly look up if products are in stock.

Store manager Stuart MacKinnon, who has worked at M&S for 12 years, said: ‘My team and I are excited about opening in Oban and we’ll be working hard to offer outstanding service.’

The new store is located at Oban Retail Park and will be open from 8am-9pm Monday to Friday, 8am-8pm Saturday and 9am-7pm on Sunday.
