Lochaber and Lorn Ramblers Group can be contacted by email on info@lochaberan­dlorn-ramblers.org.uk A circular forest walk taking in part of a coffin route with an extension giving good views after recent tree felling. Grand view over Loch Feochan on the descent. All to be obscured if replanted.

Start at the layby at head of Loch Feochan on the A816, NM872241. Cross the main road and take the track east, past the cottages at Balinoe and then turn right over the river onto a track heading E.

Almost immediatel­y, turn on to the coffin route and follow it SE to meet a forest track at NM889224. Turn E along the track for about 2km to enjoy some views to the NE from the clearfelle­d slopes. Return W to cross the coffin route and continue W on the track to a T-junction.

Turn left and continue W to a new junction at NM 877226. Fork right to descend N on a new track that zig-zags down to A816. Cross the main road and walk E along the foreshore if possible, or follow the road back to the start.

A cross-country walk in a remote area with impressive scenery. Mainly downhill on paths or tracks, some boggy. Height to climb from Loch Treig to watershed in the Lairig Leacach is 258m. Other ascents are not sustained.

From Corrour Stn take the path heading NW to join a track at the railway overbridge. Continue down to Loch Treig. Follow the S edge of the loch to cross the bridge at Creaguaine­ach Lodge.

Keeping on the west side of the Allt na Lairige, continue on the path to the bothy at NN282736. If necessary, the Allt a’ Chuil Choirean can be crossed on a bridge upstream of the bothy. Follow the track N up to the watershed and down to pass through The Lairig, a forest area now clear-felled.

Continue N to Corriechoi­lle and zig-zag down to the start of the public minor road to Spean Bridge. Transport required

Stob Dearg/Taynuilt Peak Ben Cruachan

Start from the car park in Inverawe Country Park, 800m NE of the Smokery, at NN028319. Head NE on the track until it emerges from the forest at the shore of Loch Etive. Leave the track, head SE across rough ground, cross a fence and climb a steep, uneven slope to the summit of Meall Copagach, 660m.

Turning S, continue climbing to the summit of Meall nan Each, 906m. Turn SE and descend about 100m to a col with several small lochans. Continue SE and climb the steep slope ahead to the summit of Stob Dearg, the W Top of Cruachan known as the Taynuilt Peak. Descend SE another 100m to a col and climb the ridge to the summit of Ben Cruachan. Head S down the ridge to the Bealach an Lochain at the head of Coire Dearg.

Climb S to the summit of

Meall Cuanail, 918m. Leave the summit heading SE, soon curving S following the fence line down to its intersecti­on with a track at NN070260. Head E on the track down to the dam. Descend the staircase to reach the track below the dam and follow it across the bridge over the Allt Cruachan. Locate the start of the path that leads S on the E side of this river and follow it over a stile and down through woodland to the railway. Pass under the railway at Falls of Cruachan Station to reach the A85 main road.
