Spean house plans await approval
Lochaber Housing Association is waiting for a green light from councillors to start building 20 new houses in Spean Bridge after submitting a planning application to Highland Council.
The proposed development at Tigh Aran, just outside the Lochaber village, would see a mix of two- and three-bedroom properties built in an attempt to ease the escalating housing pressure in the area.
Spanning a site adjacent to the A82 just south of Spean Bridge, the apartments will be spread between four housing blocks of two or three storeys.
Chairman of the Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry Community Council, John Fotheringham said that community councillors are considering the implications of the development and will discuss them with the builder in the near future.
‘Having campaigned for many years for affordable housing for our communities we welcome the development, but will seek assurances on some issues such as drainage, access and impact on neighbours,’ he said.
The application, submitted by architects D Kelly Design, will be considered in the coming weeks.
Spean Bridge itself is undergoing what the local community council labelled as a ‘housing renaissance’, with 80 houses and flats currently with planning approval or at an advanced stage with more applications likely to be submitted.
