Lewis group launches ‘Friends of the Trust’ membership

-

Point and Sandwick Trust hopes to harness wider support for its community wind farm and the projects it supports by introducing a new level of membership – Friends of the Trust.

Point and Sandwick Trust is 100 per cent owned by the community and invests all profits generated by its three-turbine wind farm at Beinn Grideag to projects and initiatives in the Western Isles. The trust is made up of 450 local members, an elected board and a small, dedicated team of staff based in the Old School at Knock.

Local membership gives residents the chance to speak up on trust activities, ensuring the organisation is always working for its community.

Full trust membership is reserved for residents of the districts of Point and Sandwick, which comprises 16 villages from Sandwick in the west of the Eye Peninsula to Tiumpan Head in the east.

Beyond the local area, however, the trust enjoys support for its work as a charitable organisation and as a social enterprise.

The trust already has a good following on social media – find it on Facebook @Pointandsandwick trust and on Twitter @PointSandwick – but has now launched this second level of membership ‘Friends of the Trust’ in recognition of that wider support. As Friends of the Trust, supporters will be kept up-to-date with the latest news, receiving a quarterly digital newsletter.
