KILMALLIE
Kilmallie Community Council held its annual general meeting on Monday June 25 at Kilmallie Community Centre, with 16 members of the public in attendance. Election of office bearers: Chairwoman Christine Hutchison reported the secretary had received nominations as follows:
Chairwoman, Christine Hutchison; secretary, Russell Leaper; and treasurer, Jan
MacLugash.
All three indicated they were willing to continue and there were no other nominations. Christine Hutchison was therefore elected as chairwoman, Russell Leaper, secretary, and Jan MacLugash, treasurer. Chairwoman's report:
Mrs Hutchison presented her report of the year at the meeting.
She said: 'This is my second annual report and I still feel new to the job. I’ve never really seen myself as a leader but I know there is an important job to be done and I’m prepared to play my part. I am fortunate to have a good team around me in Mandy, Carol Anne, treasurer Jan, Jim and secretary Russell.'
She continued: 'I would particularly like to thank my colleague community councillors for their work and support throughout this year. Kilmallie is the biggest development area in Lochaber at the moment with the new Belford hospital, West Highland College Centre for Science and Technology, houses on the Blàr Mòr, the marina and the possibility of a deep water harbour and gas storage at Corpach.
'We should all be glad we have a community council. Some places don’t and we know you’ll be with us when it’s critical. That’s what gives us confidence.'
Meeting schedule
The chairwoman noted there were varying views in the community council on whether to reduce or maintain the current number of meetings, given the level of activity in the area.
Community councillors would meet about this shortly. The dates published in the newsletter would be maintained, namely Monday August 27, Monday September 24, and Monday October 22.
