The Oban Times

Something for everyone

-

From the après sail social programme that extends its appeal to all ages across the week, a variety of activities are on offer from ceilidhs to barbecues, music in a range of venues, family swimming in Oban’s Atlantis Leisure Centre and general boat to boat socialising. It makes WHYW as alive off the water as it is during the day’s racing activities.

And this year it’s a ‘hark back’ to old times at Oban Marina with drinks and music in the island marquee by the Waypoint Grill on Monday night when the fleet musters in Oban. This will follow the OSC barbecue and there will be a shuttle service from the sailing club to the marina. The event’s finale will be at Dunstaffnage Marina with a prize-giving, barbecue and music hosted by the marina team.

Joint regatta chairman Beppo Buchanan-Smith said: ‘Having taken part in WHYW over the past 35 years, I have enjoyed the unique experience and atmosphere which surrounds this wonderful event and combines fantastic scenery and locations with competitive and entertaining racing and a blend of experienced competitors and new entrants to the regatta market.

‘We look forward to welcoming familiar faces as well as those who are new to the event to celebrate WHYW. We already have participants from all over the UK and beyond taking part in this amazing event. Not only is WHYW a unique regatta to be part of but it brings a significant revenue boost to all the local communities of the area and offers a wonderful chance to showcase all that is great about the west coast

Scotland both on land and sea.’
