Andrew’s £1,250 thank you to Oban hospital
An Oban man has presented Lorn and Islands Hospital with £1,250 as a thank you following emergency surgery.
Andrew Spence, BID4Oban’s chief executive, underwent the procedure in November last year after becoming ill.
Andrew said: ‘It was great to go back and visit the wonderful staff in Ward A at Lorn and Islands Hospital in Oban to present them with £1,250 following a 120-mile cycle from Kilmore to Inverness in May.
‘In November 2017, I was admitted to Lorn and Islands Hospital as an emergency with severe abdominal pain. After a CT scan, I was informed I needed immediate emergency surgery.
‘I was suffering from diverticular disease and my colon was in danger of rupturing. Following an operation that lasted more than five hours, I woke up with a new attachment - a colostomy.
‘This has obviously been a life-changing experience and I could not have made the recovery I have without the love and care of my family and the fantastic team in our wee hospital in Oban.
‘Everyone I met at the hospital was fantastic, from the A and E team, cleaners, nursing staff in wards A and B and high dependency unit, consultants, the catering team who made real food ... the list goes on. The money will go towards equipment that will benefit staff and patients.
‘Thanks to everyone who sponsored me.’
