Friends of Oban Community Play Park’s timeline of events from August 2015. August 2015

Wicksteed on site to mark out drainage lines for Phase 1 of big play park. September 2015

The first turf lifted as drainage work starts. November 2015

The opening party is hosted by Atlantis Community Leisure (despite phase one of park not being open due to wet and mud). February 2016

Phase one of play park for five- to 15-yearolds was opened on February 12. March 2016

Swing seat removed from ‘old’ (under-fives) play park and access gate padlocked. May 2016

Council installs two bins and new self-closing gate to allow safe access to green field. September 2016

After a health and safety inspection, all play parks closed by council on 28th. October 2016

Meeting between Wicksteed, Bounceback and FoOCPP on October 6 regarding big play park flooring but no input from council.

Meeting on October 27 with council, Wicksteed and FoOCPP to agree short- and long-term actions over play park flooring.

Garden upgrade done by Wicksteed, installing a new path and border edging, chainsaw carvings, musical items, mirrors, memorial benches, new fencing and gate. November 2016

Temporary fixes done on flooring in big play park by Wicksteed. Council open garden and under-fives playpark on 8th and big play park on 22nd, but leave fence between garden and big play park. December 2016

Fence comes down on December 9. February 2017

French drain installed on the green field parallel to the metal fence by council. April 2017

Council part clear the under-fives play park on 5th and close the play park on 28th. June 2017

Under-fives, phase three opening party postponed due to delay in award of tender. July 2017

July 12 sees meeting to discuss maintenanc­e, litter and the flooring in the big play park. Maintenanc­e inspection­s have not been done regularly enough – zip wire is broken beyond repair.

July 17: Wicksteed on site to start phase three build. November 2017

November 29: Zip wire fixed by Wicksteed (two-and-a-half months after parts delivered, five months after issue highlighte­d). March 2018

Big play park closed on 16th due to problems with flooring. June 2018

Council apologises for issues and explains measures done to alleviate safety concerns prior to closure of park as a precaution. Decision is then taken to use local contractor to carry out remedial work in bid to have park up and running over the summer period. July 2018

Independen­t assessor on site to test big play park flooring. August 2018

Rocking seahorse in under-fives area is barriered off. Outstandin­g issue

No signage stating opening hours etc.
