BEHIND THE SCENES at Atlantis

-

Gym Transformation

This month the gym has undergone a complete makeover with reconditioned flooring, lighting improvements and a paint refresh. The air conditioning system has also had a full health check and is now blasting out fresh cold air to keep you cool during your workout.

Social Enterprise Academy

Atlantis was one of many local social enterprises that were picked to be included in a two-week field visit for a group of Oban High School pupils. The 15 pupils have been learning all about social enterprise on a special programme organised by the Social Enterprise Academy. It was a brilliant opportunity to welcome them into the centre, share how Atlantis operates and explain how we interact with and support our local community.

Staff Development

All of our duty management team will be undergoing pool plant refresher training this month. This regular training ensures everyone has the appropriate knowledge and skills to make sure the pool is sparklingly clean and safe.

Oban Swim School

This month, 16 of our Oban Swim School Level 2 Instructors spent a day with a Scottish Swimming Tutor. In particular, the group came away with new tips and tricks for teaching front crawl, breaststroke and butterfly. Rebecca Mackinnon, our Swimming Development Officer, will be running a Level 1 swimming course this month ensuring we have teachers for the future.

Summer Swimming Lessons

For the first time, swimming lessons were provided over the summer holidays, in response to customer feedback. We were delighted to have 135 junior swimmers join us during the holiday period. We’re looking forward to more of the same for future holidays.

Ben Moves On

Ben Pollock, perhaps known better by all the children simply as ‘Ben from Atlantis’ is leaving the business this month after 13 years at Atlantis. Ben has been accepted into the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to train to become a firefighter. This is a long-held ambition of Ben’s and we’re delighted to see him achieve his goal. Kevin Keen was appointed as a sports coordinator to make sure everything keeps running smoothly .
