Lochaber Environmental Group
Traditionally minds turn to images of home-grown root vegetables or peas growing on canes when we think of making our own produce but there is more than one way to source healthy, sustainable local food.
From our prehistoric ancestors who gathered through necessity to the tradition of the berry picking from our youth. Our history is connected with this gathering past.
Recently, Claire Holohan of West Highland Herbal took a group of Nevis Landscape Partnership interns deep into the woods of Glen Nevis to give them an insight into just what can be eaten. And the answer is, quite a lot. From sorrel to willow weed, the list is a long one.
If you would like to see the countryside differently and discover a world of gathered food you hadn’t known was there, then Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) and Nevis Landscape Partnership (NLP) are co-hosting a similar event on Saturday September 29 in Glen Nevis with another herbalist, Roisin Lyle-Collins of Resilientroots.
Book a place either on the guided walk in the morning to gather herbs and plants or on the afternoon workshop to learn how to prepare wild foods.
Feel free to attend both sessions – numbers permitting – just follow the links:
