A night of Gaelic and Americana
For this year’s Oidhche Americana, on Saturday September 22, Ceòl’s Craic has decamped Way Out West to Webster’s Theatre on Great Western Road.
Oidhche Americana is a celebration of the historic links between traditional Gaelic song and Americana music.
Iain MacKay has long been celebrated as one of the finest traditional singers on the Gaelic scene. This year’s Oidhche Americana sees him make an eagerly-awaited return to the Glasgow stage accompanied by long-time musical collaborators Alex Murdo MacLeod (accordion) and Charlie MacLeod (guitar).
Willie Campbell is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest singer songwriters and is surely one of our most prolific and hard-working artists. Willie’s deep-rooted love of Americana and Country music informs many of his compositions and is especially apparent on recent album releases.
Ainsley Hamill is best known as vocalist with traditional folk band Barluath but for this event she’ll be joining Willie Campbell on stage to provide some high, lonesome, Country-style harmonies.
Bensider was originally intended to be a solo project by singer/songwriter Graham MacIver but over time it has developed into a collective of talented musicians who provide an exhilarating musical backdrop to Graham’s songs. Much of his original material is inspired by his upbringing on the Isle of Lewis.
Renowned broadcaster John Carmichael is the MC for the evening. Doors open at 7.15pm and are £14 or £12 for concessions.
