Impressive start for Lorne Ladies

-

Oban Lorne Ladies made the journey on Sunday to play Glasgow University in their first outing of the new season.

Glasgow Uni took kick off, kicking the ball straight into touch resulting in an Oban line-out which was executed well resulting in good attacking presence from Oban.

Oban Ladies continued to attack with a good break from captain Laura MacCormick putting Oban in Glasgow’s 22. Lucy Stewart then managed to find a gap, breaking through to score the first try of the day which she then converted to give Oban a 7-0 lead.

After the restart the visitors continued to apply pressure on the Glasgow defence with centre pairing Sinclair and Skofca working well together breaking through to create space for Stewart to score her second try of the day, which again was converted from a tight angle to give Oban a 14-0 lead.

As well as having a strong attacking presence the Oban defence stood strong with big tackles being made. Pressure was also applied with strong scrummaging from the forward pack turning the ball over and regaining possession in multiple scrums.

As the game progressed Oban continued to dominate with good runs from props Laura MacCormick and Ellie MacNiven and centre pairing Kirsty Sinclair and Erika Skofca.

These good runs were well supported by flankers EIlidh Shearer and Ailsa MacLachlan supporting the runners and being quick at

rucks to protect the ball.

This good team play allowed Oban to play the majority of the match high up the pitch in the opposition’s 22 resulting in several tries for Erika Skofca and Lucy Stewart and also one for Rachel MacDonald to make the full-time score Glasgow

University 0, Oban Lorne 61.

This Sunday the ladies are at home to Kirkcaldy.
