League leaders put 11 past faltering Fort

-

Fort William were unable to build on their midweek heroics against Strathspey, where they earned their first point of the season, as they succumbed to another double figure defeat away to league leaders Cove Rangers on Saturday (September 1).

A trio of top Highland League marksmen put the Fort defence to the sword as Mitch Megginson and Jordan Brown both scored four goals while Jordan MacRae also bagged a hat-trick.

Cove opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Brown beat Fort goalkeeper Ligertwood with a shot from wide of the box.

Within two minutes Brown had doubled the double and completed his hat-trick just a minute after that. Megginson then made it four before the 20-minute mark after tapping the ball into the net from close distance.

In the 27th minute Cove made it 5-0 after Ligertwood saved well from a Megginson effort but could only parry it into the path of Brown, who got his fourth of the day. Megginson bagged two of his own before Jordan MacRae slotted home a penalty just before half-time.

Just minutes after the restart, Megginson netted his fourth before Cove reached double figures on the hour mark when MacRae scored his second penalty of the game after Fort defender David MacKillop handled in the box.

MacRae soon completed his hat-trick of penalties after Scott Hunter was adjudged to have handled in the area.

The Fort did create the odd chance in the second half, with Jordan Morrison coming close on one occasion but his effort rebounded off the post.

The Fort are at home to Keith this Saturday September 8 in the Highland League.
