Three exciting exhibitions at Resipole Studios this autumn
Resipole Studios is delighted to present Genre Scenes, a collection of works by Dundee-based artist Gavin Young. Described as ‘bringing Breughel to the streets of suburbia’ by Duncan MacMillan in The Scotsman, Gavin’s work provides a fascinating snapshot of everyday life in Scotland. This solo exhibition showcases pieces created with the aid of a camera obscura – a device that both captivates and frustrates the artist in equal measure. Whilst deeming the device ‘almost unworkable’, it is the warm colours and soft edges produced by the camera that has captured the imagination of the artist and influenced his work.
As part of the exhibition, the gallery will have a working camera obscura for visitors to try out for themselves. More can be found out about Gavin’s experiments with the device in Resipole Studios’ very own blog.
Emergence, in the red gallery, is an exciting and diverse group show of works by young Scottish artists Rebecca Holloway, Heather McNab, Camassia Bruce and Imogen Alabaster, each of whom is based on the east coast of Scotland.
This collection of work celebrates and explores connections to both the self and to the landscape and environment, and promises to be an interesting insight into fresh perspectives in contemporary Scottish art.
In its autumn show, exhibiting in the main and upper galleries, Resipole Studios presents a selection of new works by some of its regular artists such as Andrew Squire, Ruth O’Dell, David Greenall, Alan Hayman, Joyce Gunn Cairns MBE, and Jan Gardner.
