Time for tea...

-

Service with a smile and a hint of lavender is on the menu at a special afternoon tea in Oban this weekend, writes Kathie Griffiths.

Shortbread, lemonade and tea all scented with lavender are just some of the temptations that will be on offer at Hope Kitchen’s Lavender Tea event this Saturday from 1pm – builder’s tea will also be available.

Town ambassador and tea set collector Kay MacDonald is loaning out some of her best pots and tea cup services for the day – she has 27 in total.

‘Afternoon tea tastes even better when it’s served up properly. We’re going to have everything from tablecloths to sugar tongs.

‘People can expect to be well looked after. It’s going to be a real treat,’ said Ms MacDonald whose fascination started as a little girl when visiting an aunt who always gave her the same tea cup.

‘That’s how it all started. I’ve got about 27 sets now. It’s lovely to use some of them again,’ she added. In the past, some of the tea sets have been used to help raise funds for Oban’s Toy Cupboard appeal.

Hope worker Fiona Ferris said: ‘We’re hoping lots of people will turn out to support us and that among them will be some people who haven’t been here before. We’d love them to come and meet everyone and find out more about what we do. We do lot’s more than just soup.’
