Spirited Fort outclassed by four-goal Keith

-

Fort William 1 Keith 4

Fort William showed strong signs of improvement on Saturday despite falling to a 4-1 defeat by Keith at Claggan Park on Saturday.

The home side had a familiar look to it with a number of welcome returns to the squad, including Scott Hunter and Stephen Lopez who started on the bench.

The Fort started strongly and had an early chance after Jordan Morrison floated a free kick into the area but the Keith ‘keeper Greg Simpson made a great save from a Michael Ellis header to keep the match scoreless.

Despite the early pressure, Keith eventually took the lead after 35 minutes but it required a wonder strike from Ryan Keir to break the deadlock.

With the score at 1-0 at halftime, the Fort were confident of getting something from this match after enjoying good periods of possession and commanding the ball much better than in previous matches.

The Fort’s hopes were dealt a blow shortly after the break, however, as Cammy Keith doubled his side’s advantage after latching on to a cross from the right flank to tap in at the back post.

Soon after, Keith got his second this time from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.

The Fort continued to press the visitors and take the game to them but were undone again after Keith broke down the right side and, after the Fort defence failed to clear the ball, a deflected shot from Wayne Barron hit the back of the net to make it four.

The home side did manage to grab a consolation goal after Keith defender Stewart Hutcheon turned the ball into his own net.

Manager Anderson said he was pleased with his team’s hard work and fighting spirit and felt that they should’ve gotten more from the match.

The loss leaves Fort William bottom of the league with a points deficit of -8, following the team’s recent nine point deduction.

Fort William travel north to play Brora Rangers this Saturday in what will be a stern test of the Lochaber side’s improvement in recent weeks.
