Sunday September 23: Beinn Bhreac-liath and Beinn Udlaidh

Start on the A82 at the layby near the NP obelisk NN328330, where ample parking is available.

Cross the road at the forest boundary and head W up Sron Gharbh, turning SW to Beinn Bheag, 653m. Descend W to a broad col then climb NW to the summit of Beinn Bhreac-liath, 802m.

Descend steeply SW to a col and continue up W to the summit plateau and N to the cairn of Beinn Udlaidh, 840m. Head down its N ridge then follow a prominent line of quartz rock NE down towards the Allt Ghamhnain.

Just before the burn, take a forest track to the B8074 at Invergauna­n.

Transport required. Grade: M+; distance: 11km; height to climb: 821m; map(s): LR50, EX 377.

Meet at Longsdale CP Oban NM862307 at 0830, Glencoe Village CP NN098587 at 0850. Start of walk at 0930.

Thursday September 27: Barcaldine to Benderloch

Start from Sutherland­s Grove

CP, NM965421. Head S on the cycle track and follow it around the fenced caravan site, past the entrance to Barcaldine House and on the reach the B845 road. Cross the road and head W on track across open ground and into the forest to Achacha. The track turns S. Follow it S for about 3km, ignoring the next three junctions, after which it curves W to reach a fourth junction at NM932383.

Turn right and head NW at first, but soon curving W to reach the head of an escarpment overlookin­g Benderloch Village, the Eagle’s Eyrie. Retrace steps a few hundred metres and turn down a good path that zig-zags down to the CP at Benderloch, NM905381. Transport required.

Saturday September 22: Glen Shiel, The Saddle and Sgurr na Sgine

Start at the lay-by off the A87 at NG971138, where ample parking is available. Follow the A87 NW for 500m, then take the stalkers’ path up to the col, 496m, between Biod an Fhithich and Meallan Odhar.

Climb S to Meallan Odhar, 610m, then continue SW to the foot of the Forcan Ridge. Scramble up W to the summit of Sgùrr na Forcan, 963m.

Descend a short tricky scramble to reach easier ground and continue W along the ridge to the summit of The Saddle. Descend SE from the trig point to the lochan on the Bealach Coire Mhàlagain.

Climb SE to reach the crest of the ridge forming the rim of Coire Toteil and follow it S over the Top (942m) to the summit of Sgùrr na Sgine. Return around the rim of the Coire and continue E to Faochag 909m. Descend its steep NE ridge and cross the fence into the plantation where a faint path may be found. This leads to a gate in the lower fence at NG969134, 100m E of which is a bridge over the Allt Mhàlagain. Follow the path back to the start.
