An Edinburgh couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Oban so they could meet Parsley the cat.

Jane and Neil Campbell attended the four-year-old Maine Coon’s One Cat Cafe in Hope Kitchen last Friday.

The couple travelled to Oban three times in 2016 to meet Parsley, but they weren’t able to find the him until their third visit.

Jane said: ‘I was weeping last time, but I am a wee bit better today. I think he is brilliant and I think Fiona is brilliant. I love reading his stories.’

With their golden wedding looming, the couple were not sure what they wanted to do. That’s when Neil said: ‘You want to go to Oban to see Parsley.’

A delighted Jane said: ‘We came up on the train, but I was panicking they were not going to be running.’ But they managed to arrive in Oban, despite storm Ali wreaking havoc on public transport.

Jane first caught a glimpse of Parsley when he appeared on an STV news programme in 2016. And, ever since, she has been keeping up with his antics on his Facebook page, which has now amassed 7,614 fans.

Fiona Ferris, Parsley’s owner, gifted the couple two printed photographs of the cat.

An update was posted on his social media page, which read: ‘I gave these to Jane and Neil as an award for dedication to me.

‘Three times they came from Edinburgh to Oban (I suspect Neil may have been less enthusiastic than Jane) to look for me in the early days before I started the Friday cafe.

‘They tried all my old haunts but didn’t catch up with me until last September at New Hope. Then a return visit yesterday on the most auspicious of occasions.’
