Congratulations to volunteers across our communities

-

The summer may be over and autumn arrived but it has been a hectic period in the Oban and Argyll area, with a host of community activities.

As we report today, the final We’ll Walk This Road Together charity concert took place at the weekend and was, once again, a magnificent success, raising as it did in excess of £15,000 for the DMI Cancer Trust.

The trust, set up by the late Nonny MacInnes, has now generated more than £70,000 in total, a splendid testament to a highly respected and popular man.

However, there were also other, less high profile, activities taking place.

Among them was the final Oban producers’ market of the year in Station Square. That initiative has been a highly successful one and will carry on next year thanks to the efforts of the hard-working team at BID4Oban.

There was also a bake sale in North Connel organised and run by children in the village which raised £145 for Children in Need. Well done to those involved.

On a literary note, The Rockfield Centre has stepped into the breach left by the temporary closure of Oban library by offering a free book borrowing service. And the Bookends Festival is in full swing.

All these admirable activities and others reflect the wonderful and resilient sense of community for which this area is renowned.

Without the selfless individuals who work behind the scenes to organise all these events, they simply would not take place. We salute you all.
