Thank you for a brilliant parade

- KAY MCDONALD editor@obantimes.co.uk

What a day Saturday was! I really hope everyone enjoyed the reindeer parade and Christmas lights as much as I did.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and it felt as if there were millions of people joining in or watching the parade, all with big smiles on their faces.

There are so many people to thank for making it all happen, I don’t know where to start so, as it says in the song, I’ll start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start.

Thanks to Andrew Spence, the man behind the scenes who was responsible for all the organisation up to the day and all the permissions needed.

David Finlayson and Oban Rotary Club, without whom the reindeer and people would all be milling about not knowing where to go. Oban and Lorn Lions for helping to shepherd the crowds. Oban Pipe Band for leading the parade and providing rousing tunes to make the walk even more fun. Oban police for making sure everyone got where they were going safely. Dougie Dan for all his work in Station Square, setting up gazebos and making sure everyone knew where to set up and then feeding everyone too. Hire and Supplies for their help with the lighting tower to ensure everyone could see Santa and the reindeer and OES for all their work setting up the Christmas lights and, like Santa, they checked everything twice. Oban FM for the fabulous festive music and countdown. The council workers who helped out with bus stops, barriers and cones. And the bus and taxi drivers who moved for the day so that we could all enjoy seeing Santa and the reindeer. On behalf of BID4Oban, a huge thank you to all of you. It shows what amazing things we can do when everyone works together. If I’ve missed anyone, I’m sorry. A massive thank you also goes to everyone who came along to enjoy themselves. You created a wonderful atmosphere that made it a very special event.

Last week’s photo was the light at the bottom of the steps to the Regent Hotel and this week you don’t have to walk very far to find this building.
