Oban man fined after trying to head-butt police officer

-

A 23-year-old Oban man has been fined a total of £585 for attempting to head-butt a police officer.

Ryan McAllister, of 15 Colonsay Terrace, Oban, was sentenced at Oban Sheriff Court on Monday November 5.

Procurator fiscal Eoin McGinty said police spotted three men kicking a football against a shop on October 6 this year, including McAllister, who had already received a ‘stern warning’ for ‘uttering comments of a sexual nature’ earlier in the night.

Mr McGinty said: ‘The officer advised the males to stop. However, the accused immediately approached his window and at that point refused to let the officer speak to the male with the football.

‘The accused began to rant and rave at the officer, telling him he was being filmed.’

His friends pulled him away and the officers drove off. However, after speaking to colleagues at the station, the decision was taken to arrest McAllister.

‘As police approached him, he immediately began to struggle with the police and attempted to head-butt one of the officers,’ Mr McGinty said.

In his defence, solicitor Edward Thornton said: ‘He has no recollection of this incident whatsoever. It does appear to be out of character for him.

‘Two weeks later, he approached the officers and apologised to them.’

Mr Thornton added: ‘He has cut back his drinking.’
