The local quiz, organised by Mary Black and members of Oban Baptist Church, was part of a live national quiz – the 156 people taking part in Oban brought the national total to 24, 117.

The winning team was Agus Haggis, who also received the prize for cheesiest name, runners-up were the Free Kirkers, and the team with the best name were The Amnesiacs.

The grand total of £1,500 was raised on the evening.

A number of local businesses generously helped make the evening such a success by providing sandwiches and homebaking for the quizzers, quiz prizes, and items for the raffle.

They included the Olive Garden, Booker Wholesale and Bridge Cafe, which donated food for the quizzers; Helen and Russell Daniels, Amore Hairdressing, Specsavers, Oban Chocolate Company, The Modern Croft, Webster of Oban, and Grace Scott, who all donated raffle prizes; and Bid4Oban and Calmac who donated the prizes for the winners and runners up.

Mary Black said: ‘I’d also like to say a big thank you to the staff at the Corran Halls, who were excellent. We couldn’t have managed without them.

‘And a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped me organise the night and those who helped on the evening, to Oban Winter Festival for putting us in the programme, and Oban FM. And thank you to the community who rose to the occasion, I’ve had good feedback from the town.’
